Hey guys,
I have been thinking about this for a bit now, Charlotte is getting big and therefore she is growing fast out of her car seat. I can not adjust the seat belt for her any more and so I think that It is about time.
If anyone in Christchurch has or knows of someone that may have a child booster car seat that they will not be needing, could you please pm or just reply in here.
I just thought that I would ask before I went to the shop and got one.
Thank you.
And if anyone is needing a child car seat we have one here in Christchurch for sale.

id personally suggest etting one of the convertable booster seats, both my girls have them they go up to 18kg harnessed then up to around 36kg with the sash belt, and come with the teether strap etc also.

I second My2girls post.
Its so frustrating isn't it? They outgrow their regular car seats so much sooner than you would want. I wish they made the seat to bigger weights and heights. Beth was out of her regular seat at around 14kgs too. I knew she wasn't ready for a proper booster seat though - theres no way she'd sit still and upright. Strangely enough - My2girls and I both have the same kind of harnessed boosters, and we didnt even know each other when we got them!
If you realy want to use a regular booster, check out how well she'll sit in one - whether she sits upright and doesnt move around. Also - be aware of where the shoulder belt sits. A friend of mine has her 3yr old in a booster and the belt sits right across her face. It scares me every time I see it. :(

Oh my gosh k then thanks for that. My hubby says that should be ok in it for a bit longer, but I don't think she will. She is tall and I can not adjust the straps for her any more.
How much did you pay for the booster car seat and where did you get it from?

Linda come see me at Baby Factory Colombo St on the 25th March (that's when I start back) and I'll see what solutions we can come up with, even if it's just to give you an idea of what you want to get hold of second hand

My harnessed booster was $199 from Baby Factory. I think there are a couple of different brands available. I find them really good cos they harness to 18kgs, same as regular carseats, then you can remove the harness and use them as a normal booster. It also means the seat can stay tethered until it turns into a booster. I am really happy with the one I have, but I must admit its a b*tch of a thing to pull apart to get the cover off to wash! Well, at least the first time. ;)
The way to tell if shes outgrown the current seat by height, is that the shoulder straps should start ABOVE her shoulders, or at the very minimum even with her shoulders. If her shoulders are higher than the harness strap, then she is too tall. Weightwise she would still be fine.
Oh and one last thing - check the dates of manufacture. You don't want to buy one thats been sitting around for a yer or so, since that shortens the lifespan of the seat. The life of car seats is from Date of Manufacture, NOT Date of Purchase.
Hope this is helpful to you! :)

BTW - How old is Charlotte?
The reason I ask is that a friend of mine in the States is a Child Passenger Restrailt Technician (qualified car seat checker and general junkie...lol). She advises that kids shouldn't be in boosters until 4yrs old AND 40lb (18kgs). Obviously in NZ we don't have the range of seats that the US have for higher weight limits and height limits, but its a good rule of thumb if you can possibly do it.
I know it won't work for everyone, since we can only harness to 18kgs anyway in NZ.
She has a whole thing written out about when kids are ready for boosters if anyone is interested in seeing it?

K then well then at least I know that I am not going crazy. The shoulder straps on her car seat are above the harness. She is approx 93cms tall. Charlotte will be three in four mths time. OMG i never looked at it that way gees they grow fast. She is round the 13 14 KG mark. But very tall.

I would def go for a harnessed one, they usually start at approx 199 brand new. shes not old enough to be in a normal belted booster even if you use a belt adjuster on her. A lady i know has a page on carseats (not the same one who used to be on here lol). i will finbd the address and link and put it up here for you.
