I read this on the plane when I was coming home on Saturday. Couldn't finish the article because I found it too distressing. Just wanted to share it and spread awareness.

That poor, sweet child.
How heartbreaking for the couple that really wanted him.

I hope they throw the book at the pieces of shit that did that to him..

Tastic, it was a really shocking and horribly sad story of child abuse. The birth mother hadn't wanted the child, so gave the boy (as a baby) to some family members to raise. They couldn't have kids of their own, and loved him very much. Then when he was 3, the birth mother took him back and he was dead within a few months. :( The couple that did it have been found guilty of manslaughter, not murder.

I totally agree with you there Trish. I was just horrified when I read the story, I mean WTF were they thinking to even want him back if they were going to do that. I'm so angry, and so amazingly sad for the poor wee boy. And to think this happened right here in NZ!

I know...it's despicable that someone could abuse a child like that. People who can do that to a child shouldn't ever be allowed to have anything to do with children again.

exactly why take him back! they didn't want him in the first place and he was in a nice home! those poor 'adoptive parents' now they are going to be blaming them selfs for the rest of there lives!

Why take him back?
From the article:
Police were told Maine Ngati was claiming a benefit for more children than were living with her and it was the threat of being caught out - and revenge against her cousin with whom she'd fought - that led to her seeking custody.

"There's nothing that I have seen that showed she wanted Ngati back for reasons of love," said Mr Middleton.

:( That's why. For their own selfish reasons. Money, spite and to try and cover their own arses re: claiming more of a benefit than they were entitled to.
