Repeated infestations of fleas at Middlemore Hospital's maternity unit have led the management to offer anti-flea bracelets to staff and patients.
Hospital spokeswoman Lauren Young said yesterday that for the past few days the bracelets had been provided on the advice of Occupational Safety and Health. They were available to both staff and patients.
Other departments of the hospital had been affected by fleas in the past and had been fumigated.
