Nice idea. Don't see it happening and perhaps a year is too long. I mean parents still have to take some financial responsibility for their decision to have a child.
Might also encourage those who really shouldn't be having (more) kids to keep procreating.

No, bad idea. There are enough people already who take advantage of the system by having more babies.

Who actually pays for the leave? As an employer I wouldn't be very happy if I had to pay for it!

I would love to have a year paid leave but i agree danni people would abuse it and those with to many kids would just have more.

My2poppets i had my boss top up my pay when i was on leave so for 3months i was on full pay, was great

yeah if I wasn't made redundant while pregnant the company I was with would have topped it up for 3 months. As it turned out I didn't qualify for anything as it took me a couple of months to find a new job so hadn't been working there long enough to qualify.

I'd quite like it to be 6 months :) but I think a year is a bit much for the government to be paying for it
