I think I can now safely say that Dana has settled in at school.
A couple of weeks ago her class got the Assembly Award - each Friday, the class that behaves best at assembly gets to take the shield and Leonard (a stuffed toy lion, probably about my size) back to their class for the week. Having a big stuffed lion in her classroom would have helped. The following week, Erin's class got the lion, and Dana got Pupil of the Week for her class.
Then this week at assembly, Dana's name was pulled out for the weekly 'Caught Being Good' draw. She eventually realised she was meant to go up the front, so she stood there looking shyly down at her feet, hands clasped in front. Now and then she'd glance around a bit, then quickly look back down - she really wasn't sure what to do (they were still drawing the middle and senior syndicate names out). The principal leans forward and in a stage-whisper says "Look in the box sweetheart and pick something that you like." Dana was most impressed when she realised she was supposed to choose her own prize! :) She got a skipping rope. DH and I were laughing quietly down the back of the hall - he was there too as Erin's class was presenting an item and MC'ing that assembly. It was so cute to watch.
Erin did well too - she recited a poem she'd written, from memory.
So yay - happy days are here at last. Dana has informed me that "Mummy, I think I like school now."
