So, Bobbi-Rose is just over 8 months now. Do i turn the car seat around to face forward? She doesn't like it anymore.
The older kids were all turned around at 6 months but i know the idea has changed some what.
What have you all done or are doing please?

I turned Casey around at 10months - thats when she got to 9.5kgs which was the limit rear facing for her seat

Morgan was around 10 months when we turned him round, there was just no way he was staying rearward any longer. It is recommended that you keep them rearward till 12 months, do you have something fun for her to look at/play with while she's in that position?

Oh yeah, it also depends on the seat, Safe'n'Sounds are 12kg, Go Safe's are 9kg, really pays to have a look

S is 6.5 kilos and they are pretty similar in size, why do you think it's wrong?

I just thought she was bigger than that by now. I don't do the whole weigh in bit but she just seemed heavier.

Jax Kurt is still rear facing and i plan to keep it liek that untill hes one. So i hope anyways.
He is in a safe n sound. Hes weighing 8.7kgs last time he was weighed. He isnt enjoying being rear facing anyone either but i just pile him with safe toys to play with to calm him down.
Shit kirsty i didnt realise Shanon was 2kgs lighter then kurt.... she is small - BUT VERY CUTE

In some parts of the US they are pushing rearface till 3+ (height makes no difference). Due to the high number of injuries suffered forwardfacing.
Ash got changed on her 1st birthday(we got her a new forward only seat)

I read up heaps on the height being an issue thing and i found a report thing somewhere that stated if a child is to tall to be rear facing and are in an accident it can break their legs.
I dont think that at that age and at heights it would make to much of a difference. The damages that could occur from an accident with a child to tall to be rearfacing could be just as bad?
The thing that sucks is everyone is a parent and every changes their kids at different ages yet its another thing that as parents we are criticised for. It sucks!
When i got pregnant i didnt realise that i wasnt gonna be her only parent along with Cory lol

Better broken legs than a snapped spine because their neck control isn't enough to stop their heads flying forward at speed in an accident though aye.
I changed B around at about 11 months. When Jett was a baby the advise was anytime from 4 months.

But does that incl when they are 2 or 3? From the accidents i have been in my head flies forward aswell....

But your neck muscles and reflexes are developed enough to hold your head in such an accident, an infants aren't

Beth was turned from rear facing at 15 months. I would've kept her rear facing longer, but dean has been trying to get me to turn her for a while, so I compromised.
I am actually incredibly sad because as of this week, she is in a full time booster. :( She has hit 18kgs, and it's no longer safe for her to stay harnessed.
As a lot of you know i am a bit of a car seat safety nutter, and feel very strongly about using each seat (or option) to it's limits. Each step up in car seat is a step down in safety.
For anyone who doesnt know - Beth is 4yrs 3 months.
I wish we could get some of the seats available in the US. Beth would be harnessed until well after age 5.

Okay, I am now so paranois and Bobbi-Rose will be harnessed till she leaves home!

Oh, I hope I didn't scare you Ginagmum, that certainly wasn't my intention.
It's just a cause close to my heart I guess. I figure it takes so little to keep our kids safe in car seats, so we should do what we can. :)

No not scared just aware. Thanks for that and your concern

WE are like you.
The seat we got Ash goes up to 36kg, she will be on it till then or 11yo old when the date runs out. By then it will prob be law anyway.
You can buy Recaro(big in US) seats in NZ now, I so wanted to get Ash one, $800 was a little bit much to spend.

She was in a harnessed booster already. The trick with those things is that they hold them up to 36kgs, but are only harnessed to 18kgs. So, I have taken the harness out and she's using it as a booster. My baby is growing up!

Beth is also in one up to 36kgs - but that only applies to the booster, not the harnessed seats. A lot of people get caught out and think the 36kgs is harnessed weight. On saturday, I was very sad to remove the harness. :( Beth thought it was great - she used the harness straps to 'strap her baby in'. LOL
I would love access to a Britax Regent. I would've loved a Britax Marathon when she was Rear facing - it holds them Rf to 15kgs, and harnessed forward facing to a higher weight too...which I can't remember right now. LOL

I hadnt heard that here they say 1 year but Ashleigh is so big shes just over 9 mos and weve put her forward facing because even in the new bigger seat her legs were crunched up

I think we turned Blake at about 10 months because his legs were quite long and also our car seat had an insert that could only be used when the bottom 2 shoulder slots were in use but he needed to go up to the next one and the car seat basically said that it had to be used for rear facing but not forward so we turned him around.

In IL you have to be 1yr and I think it's 20lb. before you can be front facing. Owen is well on his way to front facing weight but won't be a year until October.
