Well I walked the kids around to playcentre this afternoon Logan took his dummy I normally tell him to leave it had home, not sure why I didnt this time then as we were getting in the car (dh came to get us) Logan remembered his dummy so he & I had a look around but couldnt find it and we had to go as DH had to get back to work, so he went to bed at 7pm and is still awake, he hasnt cried yet so that's good, when I put him to bed I gave him a soft toy, for not having his dummy any more - (Claudia got the same toy as well when she stopped having a dummy)

Well the first 1/2 hr he kept getting out of bed and sitting in the hall way so I just put him back in to bed he had no problems and would lay down, at the momment I can hear him playing with the toys in his bed,

He keeps asking for his dummy and I just tell him it's at playcentre and we will get it tomorrow he seem's happy just not sleeply - Im hoping he will fall asleep soon and sleep all night,

DH get's home at 10.30pm so I guess I can go down then and have a look for his dummy, if he sleeps all night I wont give his dummy back to him, I've wanted him to give it up for a while now.

Well it's been about 15mins since I last heard him, he told me his dummy is hidding at playcentre,

hope he sleeps thru!

Gwen had a hard time giving hers up, I ended up tying it to the foot of her dresser so she had to go to her room and lay on the floor to suck on it (kept the string too short so it would not wrap around her at all) eventually she preferred to stay with us rather than alone in her room with her suckie.

:omg: I feel like I have had no sleep

Ok so he finally went to sleep around 9.15pm with no crying - I thought that was great but he woke at midnight crying wanting his dummy nearly 1hr latter I put him into our bed then Claudia woke wanting me so I left Logan and DH well at 2pm I go back to our bed to find DH asleep and Logan not there he was in the lounge,
So I brought him back to bed and woke DH and Logan wanted to go back to his bed so DH went with him I'm not sure for how long DH fell asleep, but I got woken around 5am again to Logan crying so I ended up in his bed then at 6.30 I took him out to the lounge layed him down on the couch with his blanket and turned t.v and went back to bed till 7.30 DH got up at 7am.

At 2am I got a dummy I had brought when Claudia had one but never opened and offered it to Logan but it was a different sort to his so he wouldnt take it, So I guess if he wanted one that bad he would of taken it so I didnt go buy one today he can learn to go with it out, I heard it takes 3 nights so I have another 2 nights of no sleep.

He would'nt have his day nap so even rest on the couch so Im not sure how tonight is going to go.

Oh you poor thing! Summer used to have one but we got rid of it when she turned 2 and it was around 4 nights of not much sleep. I hope you can keep it up Kylie. Good Luck.
Summer started to suck her thumb as soon as we took the dummy away.

Well Logan got a soft toy peginue (sp) last night for not having a dummy and I notice he was sucking its wing and it's nose, but I guess it wasnt the same as his dummy

Well he's fighting with his sister so I put him up on the couch with his blanket and he started crying asking for his dummy and I said you lost it after 5mins of crying he's now asleep on the couch I layed him down as he was still sitting up,

It's always a good thing when the decision is taken out of your hands as to when to stop. Hopefully the next couple of night get easier and he drops off quickly for you

Kylie
6th August 2008, 09:53 AM
Well it took 2hrs again for him to fall asleep - he doesnt cry just plays in his room keeps getting out of bed making alot of noise - (that kind of thing) wouldn't of been so bad but Matthew gave me trouble going to bed to night and everytime I thought he had gone to sleep Logan would make alot of noise and Matthew started crying again, plus Im over tired and have a headache as well doesnt help.

But yeah I keep thinking it has to get better and it's got to be the right time other wise I couldnt see him giving it up in a hurry

6th August 2008, 11:33 AM
well for the last 1/2hr he keeps crying out I go in he's still half asleep (this is when i would just pop the dummy back in) so I give him a cuddle and he difts back off to sleep then he crys again 5mins latter, I guess he just has to learn to settle with out the use of a dummy,

Mandy
6th August 2008, 02:31 PM
He will do better soon!

Kirsty

Well when DH & I went to bed last night Logan started crying so I told DH it was his turn to settle him so he did and returned to bed then 10mins latter he was crying again so I just looked at DH I thought I had done it all night so it was fair he helped well he ended up sleeping with Logan, not sure why cause I woke at 2am to Logan crying DH right next to him sleeping (not for long ;) ) gave him a cuddle and he seemed to go back to sleep,

I had Claudia come into my bed at some early hour, and when it was time to take her to kindy both DH & Logan were cuddled into each other sound asleep - looked so cute

I've now had DH complain about his sleep, I just told him get over it, I've had to sleep with the kids before so it was his turn.

Jacana
6th August 2008, 11:13 PM
Two nights down Kylie  Well done hun

LOL at your DH, They always get it so much worse

Kylie
7th August 2008, 10:58 AM
DH told me he's not sleeping with him tonight and I asked well why did you last night he replyed well other wise he was up every 5 mins, and I was well yeah what do you think I did the night before, - men they think they have it so much worse than us

Well he had no day sleep, he was trying to stop this last week but having no dummy I've got no chance in getting him to lay down, so he played up again at bed time and he ended up wanting to sleep in his little sleeping bag he has on the floor so I set him all up and thats where he fell asleep just after 7.30pm so it took hr tonight - not to bad

He's just cried out so had to go give him a cuddle, hopefully he will go back to sleep

I havent thought about going out to buy him a new dummy but i keep thinking if he finds his dummy tomorrow he can have it, but part of me hopes he doesnt find it he's got to get better at sleeping though the night

Jacana

Hope last night was a better nights sleep for you and the rest of the house Kylie

Selena
7th August 2008, 09:48 PM
I hope it's easier tonight and that he doesn't find it today, can only get better from here. When he cries out how long does it last for? I usually give Morgan 5 mins of intermittent crying during the night before going into him since it's more than likely dream related, 9 times out of 10 he goes out without any intervention. Not sure if it'd work with you. On another note Morgan had a lot of changes in the 2 weeks around giving up his dummy, into a big bed, no dummy, 1st haircut (his hair became his comfort after his dummy), he came out fine ;)

Hope tonight goes well for you hope he doesnt find his dummy

Kylie
8th August 2008, 02:55 AM
Well he wanted to sleep in his sleeping bag last night and he did he cried out a couple of times but nothing like the other nights, he also started getting a running nose so that didnt help, but alot better last night than the other nights,

Someone yesturday did find his dummy but Im not giving it back to him, I think he's done really well cause he would have it 24/7 unless we went out so to give it up like this will work out better than in the long run

Womble
8th August 2008, 05:03 AM
You're doing really well Kylie

Kylie
8th August 2008, 09:54 AM
Well it took awhile for him to go to sleep but no tears or anything so thats good he's sleeping on the floor again - so cute, hopefully no tears during the night

:fingersx: Logan slept through!!

Mandy
8th August 2008, 09:47 PM
Yay glad hes doing better!

Kylie
9th August 2008, 02:06 AM
:woohoo: Alot better still ages before he went to sleep but once I went to bed at 1am I never heard him call out so he slept all night :) ( i did have to go in acouple of times before I went to bed but thats ok)

Now is it alright for a child to sleep on the floor I've put new sheets on his bed and hoping he will sleep in his bed tonight

Selena
9th August 2008, 02:12 AM
Could you move him when you go to bed? Or quietly suggest he moves?

Kylie
9th August 2008, 02:20 AM
I thought about moving him once he was asleep but I was scared he wouldnt go back to sleep, I asked him last night if he wanted to get into bed when he called out but hope, I guess it's a fun new thing for him to do sleeping in his bag,

And everynow and then he asks for his dummy & I say you lost it remember and he's fine, but it's funny DH mentioned last night that he snores we havent heard him before cause you normally hear him sucking away on his dummy :)

Selena
9th August 2008, 02:25 AM
Apparently dummies are good at reducing the risk of cot death because they bring the tongue forward, that's probably why you hear him snoring now!

Kylie
9th August 2008, 09:43 AM
well he's asleep in his bed, I put new sheets on his bed today with his sleeping bag on top and DH put him to bed just inside the bag with his blanket on top and he's nearly asleep - he's also coming down with a cold as well.

Jacana
10th August 2008, 12:50 AM
Yay, sounds like sucess finally  Poor wee man getting a cold though

Mandables
10th August 2008, 01:26 AM
Yay for him getting through this, Pity about the cold though hope it passes soon and its not too bad, perhaps the floor has been too cold

Kylie
10th August 2008, 01:48 AM
YAY he slept nearly all night but the couple of times I did have to go in it wasnt because of the dummy it's his nose more thing, yucky cold

so I call this a sucess I didnt give in a get him another one and he's coped pretty good over all, now to get him having his day sleeps again then I will be sweet :)

Womble
10th August 2008, 04:05 AM
 definitely a success!!!

Hope the cold doesn't get too bad :comfort:

Kylie
10th August 2008, 10:03 AM
The cold is awful, he was so grumpy this evening I nearly gave him his dummy back it took ages to get him even in bed tonight then he ended up back on the floor in his sleeping bag

Jacana
10th August 2008, 07:48 PM
Well done for staying strong Kylie  Hope he slept through the night last night :fingersx: and is feeling better this morning

How did last night go?

Selena
10th August 2008, 10:15 PM
Colds are the worst, does he have access to a bottle of water of some sort? I know that Morgan likes to have his straw cup nearby when he sleeps when he's got a cold since his throat must dry out something chronic, if he doesn't have it he comes and gets us to get it for him

Kylie
13th August 2008, 09:58 AM
Well it's been just over a week now with out his dummy and he's done great every second day he will ask for it and I remind him he lost it and he's happy with that never crys about it, So Im pleased he lost it.

But it still takes him nearly 1.5 -2 hrs for him to go to sleep before he would just lay there sucking on his dummy and fall asleep now he gets into everything last night he kept taking his nappy off the second time I caught him putting his pants back on he had also put on a swimming nappy - so I had to take that off ended up wearing a pull up to bed.

Mandy
13th August 2008, 01:22 PM
Glad hes still doing fairly well and you are doing awesome being able to keep it up!
