My friend and I went to the parent show out at Porirua on Saturday. They had a lot of good stuff there actually. My friend is pregnant and at the stage where you need to start thinking about buying a car seat, or hiring one from Plunket.
So we were really happy to see a stall there representing the Plunket carseat rental scheme. My friend was chatting away to the plunket lady, and Emma started grizzling a little bit (as she does when we're not doing the things she wants to do!). So to stop Emmy grizzling, the plunket lady gave her a balloon, which I would have had no complaints about if it was blown up. But it wasn't. And as kids do, she put there whole thing right into her mouth. I thought how easily she could have choked on that, and how strange it was that a plunket nurse would give something like that to a child. Maybe I am just being overprotective, but I thought it was a bit dangerous. So did my friend.
So as a result I had to take the balloon out of her mouth, and this resulted in a tantrum (sigh). Luckily I had some raisens in my bag which I could give her... and she ate them happily without choking.
